My name is Katie and I was born in the North of England 29 years ago.
Growing up, I was surrounded by a hardworking, deeply loving Yorkshire family. I lived under the swell of the North Yorkshire Moors and was taught to appreciate my northern heritage, and the rugged earth that held and nourished me. But, from a young age, I had my eyes set on lands further away, lands on the other side of the North Sea. The lands I would see illustrated in the works of John Bauer and the books of Elsa Beskow, Tove Jansson and Astrid Lindgren.
Since 2009 I’ve wandered through Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, mostly alone, sometimes with loved ones, always with the hope that I’d find somewhere to take off my boots, put the kettle on and call my own.
And now, in the year 2016 I’ve finally found my true north – in the form of a Swede called Sebastian – and The Girl With Cold Hands will be a living manuscript of our life together in Sweden.
I’ve come to Sweden absolutely committed to becoming a valued member of this wonderful society. I want to embrace Sweden and its culture tight, and with both of my arms. I want to learn everything there is to know, and explore what makes the heart of this country beat. It’s my ambition to shape myself into a person that Sweden will be proud to call their own, and I’m looking forward to documenting every step of the way here.

I welcome you on my Nordic journey!
